Reason: Your gallbladder is located under your liver in the upper right quadrant of your abdomen. Stones, thickenings of the gallbladder wall, and obstruction of the bile duct are a few reasons that you may have a gallbladder attack. Your primary care physician or Dr. Harrison can determine whether you have a gallbladder infection by using an ultrasound or HIDA scan. Gallbladder surgery can prevent you from having further pain, suffering, and future gallbladder attacks.
Preparation: The day before your surgery, you will be asked not to eat after midnight.
Gall Bladder Surgery Procedure: In most cases, gallbladder surgery can be performed laparoscopically. On rare occasions, however, open surgery may be necessary.
Post Procedure: You will generally be able to go home the same day of your surgery.
Follow-Up: Dr. Harrison will ask to see you back in his office in 1-2 weeks to discuss your pathology and ensure you are doing well.
